Things I'm working on for Klaio.app
03/12/2024 | Claudio_VL | 0 commentsKlaio.app is a URL.
This isn't really a bragging post, since there's nothing to brag regarding Klaio's slow start, this is just a way to recap the things I am working on for my soon-to-be-a-Twitter-alternative social network website-cum-app.
1) Posting while offline. It might seem unnecessary, in the Age of the Always-On Connection, but when travelling overseas, e.g. from Europe to the Far East, one can turn out to be offline for a long time: during the flight, for instance (Eva Air offers a complimentary 30' during flights from Europe to Asia, but sometimes that's not enough), and especially when you are hiking in a forest. Not that anybody should feel compelled to look at a screen while trekking in a forest on a tropical island, surrounded by weird and wonderful fauna, but it might happen. Klaio.app aims at simply storing offline posts in a draft area, a-la' Ex Twitter, or - less flexible, more automated option - post them as soon as a connection is available. Frankly, I am just going for the lowest hanging fruit here.
2) Full-screen images. Ex Twitter offers that, Instagram doesn't, and I don't know about Facebook, since I'm only in my fifties. Sh*t, a web application developer who is past is twenties, thirties and forties! Yes, I enjoy developing web applications, or "websites", as they used to be called in the Noughties. To be fair, 100% of the apps I am developing in 2024 (including, and especially, Klaio.app) are Progressive Web Apps (PWAs), meaning they are websites designed to operate as native apps, and especially to be available offline. Regarding the feature in the title: the JS lighbox used in the Unified Platform (here) would just be fine.
3) Fix session duration. How embarassing is that? My apps on the Unified Platform all have long-lasting sessions, but this has not been implemented on Klaio.app, and remains on my @todo list.
4) Chat and video calls. Developed these features in 2023, didn't implement because my guinea pic test user did not understand how a login page works. My bad. Will just put them out there, maybe there's somebody - even just ONE person - dissatisfied with Ex Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, Telegram, Mastodon, Bluesky, and interested in trying something new.
