Norwegian Sea Eagles at the Lofoten Islands, Norway
13/07/2025 | Claudio_VL | 0 commentsAt some point you have to wonder if you have have done (if you are done with) your best, most demanding travelling days. Five weeks driving everywhere in New Zealand, a classic road trip from Atlanta to Utah, a visit to Angkor Wat. Northern lights in Tromso, volcanoes and glaciers in Iceland, the Three Capitals Tour of Italy.
"Shall we reach the Lofoten Islands after travelling through Norway by train"?
That's how my wife can shatter my preconceptions with one sentence.
It was great. From Stansted to Bergen, by train to Oslo, then by coach (bus) to Trondheim, after the night train was cancelled. Trondheim to Bodø by train (with a great sunset arriving in Bodø), then a small plane to Svolvær (Lofoten islands). Two nights there, then back to Bodø, then by night train (a long-awaited yet slightly underwhelming experience) to Oslo, from where we flew back to Heathrow.
In the Lofoten Islands we joined a "water safari", a tour to see fjords and sea eagles. I assume you are all familiar with fjords, so I will only publish pictures of sea eagles today.
All pictures were taken with a Nikon D5300 (DX format) with a Nikkor 55-200mm zoom.

Sometimes I wonder if I could have taken better pictures with my Sigma 50-500mm. I am reasonably sure the optical quality of the cheap-ish Nikkor 55-200mm I used is superior to the Sigma's, and the weight saving made the day very enjoyable.
